Oh physical therapy...

So, I went back for my FOURTH physical therapy appointment. Before the appointment I brainstormed with Michael before to describe exactly what the issue is. The PT always asks me before and after I leave what level of pain I am in 1-10. That doesn't make sense in my head. I told him it was a 4 overall, because it hurts, but I am not in constant pain. I pretty much just averaged my pain out. But I don't think that was effective. So I ended up telling him that when it does hurt, the first 5-10 steps of walking after sitting for awhile, in the morning, etc, it is at a level 8. Once I am over those first few steps about a 4. Once I am walking for about 10-15 minutes it is at a 2.

The PT said, in a nice way of course, that he was pretty frustrated that I am not seeing improvement. It was actually feeling worse on Saturday and Sunday. Not okay. So he did the whole torture massage, taught me some new stretches and workouts, and suggested I get a night splint. The night splint essentially just stretches out your Achilles tendon at night. He said a lot of ballet people he has done PT with often use it and say it made a huge difference. I got some today at lunch and will give them a try. He also suggested some shoe inserts. I don't have much faith in those but I got some of those as well to try.

I also got some glucosomine, because my dad says it worked for his same issues. I think it takes a month before you can even pretend to think it is working. haha.

I have to go in for one more appointment on Thursday. I am supposed to go for one normal run and one swim. I am actually pretty excited for the swim.

So lets get into yesterdays eats.

I started the day with some greek yogurt w/ grape nuts, vanilla almond granola and strawberries.

For lunch I had an egg salad pita with some sweet potato chips I found at work.

For a snack I had some veggies with oregano. I took the photo when I had already eaten about 3/4s of the bag.

For dinner I made peanut soup again. I made a HUGE batch. I didn't mean to, but I did. you might see that eaten a lot in the next few weeks. I also froze a lot so I can have a go to dinner when needed.

Have you ever had to go to physical therapy?

  1. I haven't done PT yet, but I just had ankle surgery 10 days ago and I will be enduring PT for 3-4 months 3 times a week starting in late October. I think it sounds dreadful. I had plantar fascitis and the night splints really helped for me, hopefully they do for you.

  3. Fortunately I've never had to go through physical therapy..but the word definitely sounds better than what it actually seems to be like. Sorry your session didn't go well. Hopefully the run and swim will be better! :)

  4. Maren,
Good luck on the PT. I hope it is not as bad as mine. Or painful, it is good.

    Mary,
