First CSA Pick Up from Johnson's Backyard Garden
Mike and I woke up on Saturday morning and went to the farmer's market near our house to pick up our very first box from the Johnson's Backyard Garden.
The CSA allows you to sign up for it on a bi weekly basis, and will let you cancel anytime. At first they had it so when you sign up you had to pay for a 2 month trial up front. I am much happier now that they changed it to pay as you go.
Here is the box, closed.
Here it is open! Look how beautiful it is! I love the rainbow chard. This box included rainbow chard, radishes, sweet potatoes, spinach, scallions, carrots, turnips, kohlrabi, broccoli, bok choi and a half dozen carton of fresh eggs.
Farm Fresh Eggs & Pastry
Mike wanted a scone from the farmers market so we got an with pear and cinnamon. We split it and served it alongside an amazing farm fresh egg. I could definitely taste a difference. They tasted more earthy, but in a good way.
With breakfast I got to enjoy a cute little Ender sitting next to me.
Workout
After breakfast I went to the gym and got in an hour workout. Our soccer game was canceled from the rain, so I knew I had to make up what would have been a great workout with another one. I ended up focusing on improving speed with interval running. Walking was around 3.8 and running was between 7-8 on the treadmill. Dinner with shmucks was on again in the cardio cinema room at Golds. This was definitely an awesome workout.
Lunch
For lunch I had some leftover pizza from the drafthouse the night before. I served it alongside from steamed spinach. Spinach is so much better steamed than raw. Night and day difference for me.
Farmer's Market Sweet Potato Tostadas
Although this meal wasn't entirely made with farmer's market loot, it did have some of it in there. This meal was absolutely amazing. Mike and I both agreed we would pay someone to make this for us.
The sweet potato mix includes some sweet potatoes obviously, corn, cilantro, black beans, onions, garlic, and cumin. I topped it with some feta and some La Dona salsa that I tried to replicate. It was beyond delicious. I kind of wish I had it right now.
