I Finally Tried Crossfit

I finally bit the bullet and tried crossfit after years of lusting after it. I got Michael to go with me, which really helped me get the courage to go. Crossfit is something that I knew I would love but was terrified to try. I feel like that is a normal feeling since these people can do 100 unassisted pull ups, do Olympic lifts and double unders. It is like they are super heroes.

I was going to take photos, but I wussed out. I already felt new and awkward, I just couldn't do it. So now you just have to read my words. :-)

The crossfit gym I went to was Brodie Park Crossfit because it had good reviews and was only 2 miles from my house. I emailed them on Sunday about getting started and they emailed me back by Monday giving me all the information I need. Like most crossfit places, you have to take an elements class before you can do their regular classes. In the elements class they teach you all the basic moves. You have to take 2 of the classes, and today was the first one. I thought that maybe it would be a 15 minute intro and then they would make me do the WOD. I was fairly scared of the WOD, it involved huge weights and double unders and ahh. Turns out the elements class is the whole class though with a trainer. Yay.

Mike and I were not the only ones signed up for the elements class. Turns out another couple also had signed up that same day too. Yay. Took off the pressure and made it more comfortable. Our trainer was Emily, who seemed like quite a bad ass and was a really great coach. We started off with 2 laps around the building, then a few other warm up drills. The skills we focused on included squats, wall squats, kipping pull ups, ring rows, ring dips and muscle ups. I actually did okay on the kipping pull ups, better than I expected. I of course had to use an elastic band to get all the way up, but it was not as hard as expected. I am sooooo glad I put in months of practice before I trid it. Muscle ups though, lordy. Not sure I will ever get that one.  Mike did very well throughout the whole thing and I think he liked it as well.

Overall, I am looking forward to Thursday and next week. I plan to do 2 days a week for at least 3 months. Yay. I am still terrified of starting a real class, because the people there are definitely very fit but I will just have to suck it up and be brave. It will be worth it, I am sure of it.
